It’s a full-on epidemic…
The number of people with diabetes has doubled over the past 30 years.
More than 100 million American adults now have diabetes or its precursor, prediabetes.
Now, a new study has uncovered a surprising hidden cause for diabetes…statin drugs.
It shows that it may be no coincidence that diabetes rates have skyrocketed at exactly the same time doctors began prescribing more statins.
The research was published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.
Scientists analyzed data from 9,535 people.
They followed the subjects for 15 years.
It turned out that statin users had a 38% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. And people who took the cholesterol drugs had higher insulin levels.
Professor Bruno Stricker was the study’s senior author. He said the results show that statin users need to be carefully monitored for blood sugar issues.
3 Natural Statin Alternatives That Won’t Make You Diabetic
This new study is just the tip of the iceberg.
Statins have also been linked to memory loss and Alzheimer’s. They increase calcification in your arteries and rob your heart of CoQ10, a nutrient that keeps it strong. The drugs also raise your risk of thyroid cancer and Parkinson’s disease. But doctors rarely warn their patients about any of these dangers.
And they come on top of well-known statin side effects such as muscle aches, insomnia, headaches, and nausea.
Here are three natural ways to lower your heart disease risk. Unlike statins, they won’t raise your risk of diabetes:
- Dump simple carbs and grains. They raise blood sugar, which releases insulin into your system. This leads to inflammation and heart disease. Stay away from refined sugar, white bread, and pasta.
- Avoid these oils. Corn…canola…vegetable…soybean… They all contain large amounts of omega 6 fatty acids that wreak havoc on the coronary system. Replace these with heart-healthy alternatives like organic extra virgin olive, avocado, and coconut oils.
- Add antioxidants. Dark chocolate and red wine are loaded with them. Some of the best antioxidant sources include tart organic berries and green leafy vegetables. Tomatoes are great for cardiovascular health, too.
